Setup Netscape 3 Mail

To setup your Netscape Navigator (version 2 or 3) for your ANS email, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open Netscape. You don't have to be connected to ANS at this stage.
  2. Once Netscape is open, go to the Options menu and choose Mail and News Preferences. (fig 1)

  4. Select the Servers option tab. (fig 3)
  5. Fill in the options you see as follows:
    Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: mail.ans.com.au
    Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: mail.ans.com.au
POP3 User Name: your ANS login name News (NNTP) Server: news.ans.com.au

For all others, just use the default settings unless you know what you are doing.

  7. Select the tab labelled Identity. (fig 4)

The options should be set as follows:

    Your Name: Enter your name.
Your Email: Your ANS email address, in the format userid@ans.com.au where userid is your ANS userID in lower case.
Reply-to-Address: Put your ANS email address in here as well, or simply leave it empty.
Your Organization: If you like, you can put the name of your business here, or you may choose to leave it totally blank.
Signature File: This is normally left blank.

  9. Finally, go to the Organization tab. (fig 5)

If you want Netscape to ask you for your ANS password every time you check your email, you should untick the box Remember Mail Password. As you would imagine, if you want Netscape to remember your ANS password when you check for email, you should put a tick in this box.
The other options on this screen are best left at the normal settings.
